Nationality: NLBorn: 1943scientist

Biography

Pim van Lommel is a cardiologist from the Netherlands who conducted pioneering research on near-death experiences (NDEs) rather than UAP/UFO phenomena. During his 35-year career in cardiology, van Lommel systematically studied NDEs in cardiac arrest patients for more than twenty years. In 2001, he and his team conducted a landmark study involving 344 cardiac arrest patients who had been successfully resuscitated across 10 Dutch hospitals, comparing psychological, demographic, medical, and pharmacological data between those who reported NDEs and control groups. While van Lommel is not primarily known for UAP/UFO research, his work on consciousness and anomalous human experiences has tangential relevance to broader discussions of unexplained phenomena. He has authored works including 'Consciousness Beyond Life: The Science of the Near-Death Experience' and 'The Blind Spot: Why Science Cannot Ignore Human Experience,' establishing himself as a respected science communicator focused on consciousness studies and existential questions.
